5/3 Solenoid Valve Working Principle – Interactive Animation
Explore how a 5/3 solenoid valve controls airflow in a pneumatic system. Use the interactive simulator to switch between Y1, Centre, and Y2 positions and observe how airflow changes the movement of a double-acting cylinder.
How Does a 5/3 Solenoid Valve Work?
A 5/3 directional control valve has five ports and three spool positions. It is commonly used to control pneumatic cylinders in industrial automation systems.
- P – Pressure supply: Receives compressed air.
- A and B – Working ports: Direct air to either side of the cylinder.
- R and S – Exhaust ports: Release air from the cylinder.
Three Operating Positions
- Y1 activated: Air flows from P to A, while B exhausts through S.
- Centre position: In a closed-centre valve, all five ports are blocked.
- Y2 activated: Air flows from P to B, while A exhausts through R.
Applications of 5/3 Solenoid Valves
These valves are used in pneumatic machinery, industrial automation, cylinder positioning, and applications requiring a centre position between two operating directions.
Try the interactive 5/3 solenoid valve simulator to understand spool movement and pneumatic airflow. This animation is intended for learning and illustrates a closed-centre valve configuration.
