5/2 Solenoid Valve Working Principle – Interactive Animation
Explore how a 5/2 solenoid valve controls a double-acting pneumatic cylinder. Use this interactive animation to switch between Retract and Extend positions and observe how compressed air flows through the valve.
How Does a 5/2 Solenoid Valve Work?
A 5/2 directional control valve has five ports and two switching positions. It is commonly used in industrial automation to control pneumatic cylinders.
- P – Pressure supply: Receives compressed air.
- A and B – Working ports: Connect to either side of the cylinder.
- R and S – Exhaust ports: Release air from the cylinder.
Two Operating Positions
- Retract: Air flows from P to A, while B connects to exhaust.
- Extend: Air flows from P to B, while A connects to exhaust.
In a single-solenoid, spring-return valve, energizing the solenoid switches the valve to the actuated position. When power is removed, the spring returns it to its normal position.
Applications of 5/2 Solenoid Valves
These valves are widely used in pneumatic actuators, packaging machines, industrial automation systems, and manufacturing equipment.
